Pre-Op Exam

Your doctor will review your Surgical Plan using New Look MD’s proprietary hair restoration template. This ensures the number of follicular/graft units are extracted to give you the look and density you require. Guide lines for the hairline, top and crown area are drawn on your scalp. Local anesthetics will be administered to the donor area and hair transplant recipient area.

Donor Optimization

Each patient is limited by the quantity of donor hair available to relocate to the bald and thinning areas. Donor density and scalp laxity are the key factors in determining the total donor reserves for each patient.

Removing Donor Material

This area will be precisely measured and the hair will be trimmed slightly.

The donor material is removed in the form of a long strip of tissue using a single or multi-bladed scalpel leaving a very fine incision.

The donor site will be sutured with a Seamless Closure Technique to ensure proper healing and a fine line that is very difficult to detect. Sutures are typically removed within ten days.

Isolating Follicular Units

Donor material will be isolated under magnification and trimmed into grafts. The naturally occurring follicular units are segregated into 1, 2, 3, and 4 natural follicular units.

Creating the Receptor Sites

The receptor site of the hair transplant is prepared with a local anesthetic. Shaving or trimming of the recipient area is not necessary.

Precision surgical instruments are used to create new receptor sites that mimic the growth patterns of natural hair. The doctor will use the finest surgical instruments to recreate your new hairline ensuring greater density and optimal growth.

Placing the Follicular Units

The staff will meticulously place  1, 2, 3 or 4 hair units at the correct angle, direction and pattern to exactly mimic your original hair. Great care will be used to place each graft in the scalp to allow enough blood to nourish every hair during the brief healing process (called recapilarization) and ensure maximum growth.

Following the surgery, you can expect hundreds of tiny incisions with short hair stubble showing from the new grafts. These incisions will heal in about a week.

Your surgeon will give you the maximum density that’s medically safe and place each follicular graft as close as possible to achieve a thick, healthy look.

Recovery and End Result

More than 98% of these newly placed follicular hair clusters will survive and grow. Within a week you will see hair follicles appear to be growing. These are actually the hairs that had been growing in the donor area prior to being relocated to the bald area. These old hair shafts will fall out and about 90 days later they will start to grow new hairs!

As you continue with the recommended treatment, your hair will look thicker, denser and totally natural. You can schedule another procedure whenever you wish without looking “under construction”. Additional sessions can usually be done after 6 months when the newly transplanted hair has begun to grow out.
